25,000 trees destroyed in Israel's most recent incursion in Beit Hanoun
October 19, 2007

Israeli forces bulldozed more than 500 dunums (500 square kilometers) of farmland during Israel's most recent incursion into the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun on October 10th and 11th.

Four wells and approximately 25,000 olive and fruit trees, as well as the roads leading to the farms were destroyed. 50 farmers have been left without a source of income.

Beit Hanoun used to be the principle producer of citrus fruits in the Gaza Strip. Since the beginning of the Al-Aqsa uprising in September 2000, Israeli forces have demolished approximately 4,500 dunums (of agricultural land.

Palestinians reclaimed 2,150 dunums of this land as of July 2006, but 30% of the reclaimed land was then demolished a second time.
