The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) has been formally offered to join the forthcoming Palestinian coalition government, a member of DFLP's politburo, Salih Zeidan, revealed on Tuesday.
Zeidan told Ma'an that "he DFLP will study the suggestion and respond later." He added, however, "The DFLP has expressed their own vision of a real unity, based on political partnership rather than proportional distribution."
These declarations came during the consultations that Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh is conducting in order to compose a coalition government, in line with the letter of entrustment presented to him by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. On Tuesday, Haniyeh hosted in his office a delegation from the DFLP, comprising of Salih Zeidan; another politburo member, Ramzi Rabah; and several central committee members: Abdul-Hamid Abu Jiyab, Salih Nasir and Talal Abu Zarifa. Haniyeh illustrated to his guests the details of the Mecca agreement and the letter of entrustment he received from Abbas, and asked them to participate in the government.
For his part, Salih Zeidan said that the DFLP's delegation told Haniyeh that "they oppose the agreements which had failed to push forward any of the Palestinian rights". He added that the DFLP had "always been struggling to surpass halfway agreements". Consequently, Zeidan said that the DFLP affirms "the necessity of adopting a unified political agenda based on the national reconciliation accord [which was based on the National Accord Document or Prisoners' Document] and the resolutions of international law."
The DFLP's delegation also stressed the need for an immediate meeting of the higher national committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and for care in selecting the independent candidates for the ministries.
