The secretary general of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Nayef Hawatmeh, warned that the continuation of current situation, with respect to the Palestinian cause and the prolonged dialogue around the formation of a national unity government, is leading to a decades-long setback of the cause.
Following his meeting held in Damask this past January 20 with the President Mahmoud Abbas, Hawatmeh said, “We are sure that our cause must advance because for more than a year it has been at a stand still.” He described the prevailing situation as an error and emphasized that “we should not wait one day more.”
He added, “The Palestinian cause is living in a very dangerous political moment.” He insisted on the necessity of advancing along the path of Palestinian national unity and on the formation of a national government with a new program politician based on the document agreed to between the various Palestinian organizations, the Arab Peace Initiative and resolutions of International Law.
The Palestinian leader said that all groups should assume responsibility with a highly unified and democratic spirit to form a united national and coalition government that embraces all the forces and organizations that signed the document proposed by the prisoners movement.
