May 8, 2007

The secretary general of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), Nayef Hawatmeh held talks on Monday with the chair of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), Salim Al-Zaanoun, in Jordan .

The talks focused on the implementation of the Cairo decision and the national agreement document calling for the reorganization of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the election of a new PNC to represent the Palestinian people.

The new PNC is intended to represent not only the population of the Palestinian territories, but also the Palestinian diaspora of refugees throughout the region and will be based on the principle of proportional representation.

Hawatmeh also held a general meeting for all members of the PNC residing in Jordan and discussed the new PNC.

Delegates called for accelerating the ratification of the law of proportional representation, the revival of Palestinian unity and an amendment to policy in order to account to the 60% of Palestinian diaspora that have been marginalized since the Oslo Accords in 1993.
