Hawatmeh meets with Abbas in Jordan
September 26, 2006

The secretary general of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), Nayef Hawatmeh, has held a long meeting on Sunday with the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas in Amman .

They discussed the complications of forming a unity government based on the national agreement document of 27 June 2006 and the new political program according to the Haniyeh-Abbas paper.

Abu Mazen referred to his speech in the UN and the meetings he held with the 'international blocs' and the Quartet. He stated that the only way to lift the blockade of the Palestinians is a unity government with clear a political agenda based upon the Arab Initiative and the international legitimacy resolutions.

For his part, Hawatmah confirmed that the inter-Palestinian crisis can only be solved through unity government with a comprehensive political agenda which surpasses all the monopolies and conflicts in the Palestinian arena.
