December 20, 2007

The death toll in Gaza Strip and the West Bank has risen to 12 since Monday night after Israeli reconnaissance planes targeted a base belonging to the de facto government's police force in the southern Gaza Strip.

Two police officers were killed and four others were injured in the attack near the evacuated Israeli settlement of Moraj in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestinian medical sources told Maan.

Executive Forces spokesman Islam Shahwan confirmed that police officers were killed in the Israeli raid on their base.

Nine activists affiliated to Islamic Jihad's Al-Quds Brigades, including the general commander, were killed in the Gaza Strip on Monday night and early Tuesday morning in different Israeli air strikes. A tenth Islamic Jihad activist was also killed in the northern West Bank in an operation by an undercover Israeli force.

Assassination of Al-Quds Brigades' general commander

An Israeli air strike killed the general commander of the Al-Quds Brigades, thirty-six-year-old, Majid Al-Harazin and his aide, thirty-eight-year-old Jihad Al-Thahir, when an Israeli missile targeted the car they were traveling in. Five other activists were injured in the attack, Islamic Jihad leader Khalid Al-Batsh announced on Monday night

Palestinian medical sources stated that the victims' bodies were taken to Al-Shifaa hospital in Gaza City along with five injured combatants, including one with serious injuries.

Eyewitnesses told Ma'an that the Israeli planes fired at least one missile at a car traveling near the Italian Compound in the An-Nasir neighborhood, west of Gaza City.

Islamic Jihad's Al-Quds Brigades said that they would retaliate for these "Israeli criminal acts" with "a barrage of bombing operations inside Israel"

Operation at dawn

In another operation an Israeli fighter jet targeted three Al-Quds Brigades activists, as they headed to the Al-Tawba mosque in the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip, Palestinian medical sources said on Tuesday morning. They were killed immediately and several others were injured including bystanders.

Al-Quds Brigades sources named the victims as Husam Abu Jabal, Muhammad At-Taramsi and Osama Yasin.

Assassination of prominent West Bank Al-Quds Brigades leader

Islamic Jihad sources also announced the assassination of one of their most prominent leaders in the West Bank. Undercover Israeli forces targeted Tariq Abu Ghali in an operation in Qabatia near Jenin in the northern West Bank. Three other activists were injured.

The sources said that the Israeli undercover force surprised Abu Ghali, firing on his car and killing him, before taking his body to an unknown destination.

Second operation in western Gaza City

Israeli fighter jets also launched several missiles at a group of Al-Quds Brigades combatants in western Gaza City killing Karim Al-Dahduh, Ammar Abu Al-Said and Ayman Al-Aylah, Palestinian sources told Maan. Three others were injured in the attack and were taken to Al-Shifaa hospital in Gaza City.
