Palestinian organizations worried by situation of the Palestinians in the Nahr Al-Bared camp north of the Lebanon
June 4, 2007

Palestinian organizations warned of dangerous consequences that an attack on the Nahr Al-Bared camp would bring and the involvement of Lebanese army in combat — which is not in the interests of the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples. They affirmed that the cease-fire represents a beginning of a search for a solution to emerging problems.

In statements made in Damascus on Wednesday, May 23, soon after a meeting of their leaders summoned to review the situation in Lebanon, especially in Nahr Al-Bared, they clarified that the bombing of the camp and the continued confrontation is leading the Palestinian people toward tragedy, the loss of human lives, a massive exodus and the destruction of facilities and institutions.

They expressed their support for the Lebanese army in its role of establishing security for that country but insisted that the Palestinian people should not be punished with indiscriminate bombings and the destruction of their homes.

They called on Lebanese forces to prevent the enemy of the two peoples from achieving its objective and to stop the massacres and threats against the Palestinian people.

They called on the Arab League and all international and human rights organizations to mobilize to save the Palestinians in the camp and to stop the bloodshed, which only benefits the enemies of the Arab nation.

They reaffirmed the unity of the Palestinian position, based on national principles, to resolve the current crisis and pointed to the necessity of protecting the Palestinian people in order to restore calm in Nahr Al-Bared and to guarantee the security of the inhabitants of that camp.
