Taisir Khaled, executive member of the PLO and member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said that the military escalation in the Gaza Strip and the campaign of arrests by Israelis in the West Bank demonstrate the weak policies of an unable government.
Khaled added, in a statement made to press on May 24, that the bombings of residential neighborhoods and civilian facilities in the Gaza Strip, as well as the campaign of arrests directed against those who include ministry officials, deputies, mayors and local councilmen in the West Bank, demonstrates Israel ’s weakness. They are clearly trying export their internal crisis, he said. All this is reflected in their militaristic position that only adds to the deterioration of the situation and the suffering of the Palestinian people under occupation, asserted Khaled.
He pointed out that military aggression against the Gaza Strip and the last campaign of arrests of key figures in the West Bank is the response from the Israeli government to a proposal for a mutual truce announced by the Palestinian side following meetings held between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and the five forces of the Palestinian resistance.
The Palestinian leader affirmed that Zionist aggression is the clear message of the Israeli government, which insists on continuing its aggressive policies and on considering the Palestinian-Israeli relationship within the framework of security — spilling Palestinian blood as an effort to get out of its crisis and a committed political solution.
