Declaration of Saleh Nasser, Member of the Central Committee of the DFLP, Soon After Meetings with Hamas Regarding the Formation of a Palestinian Government

Comrade Saleh Nasser, member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) —speaking soon after meetings held between the Al-Badil bloc and a delegation from the Hamas Movement regarding the formation of a Palestinian government— declared the following:

“We call for talks, in which participate all the active forces and blocs represented in the Legislative Council, with the objective of crystallizing a common, political, social and security program to clear the path to a national coalition government that is devoted to participation in decision making and which moves away from absolutism of power or the substitution of one absolutism for another.”

He added that the united program which the DFLP proposes should reflect the democratic character of society and of the Palestinian National Authority; it should also be inspired by the Declaration of the Independence Document and supported by international law.

He affirmed that the agreement on a program of common denominators and the formation of a government of national unity guarantees the solution of contradictions between the presidential and government institutions and assures the existence of a Palestinian power able to face the challenges following the Israeli elections, especially the expansionary Zionist plans, constituted on a unilateral solution.

He also called on President Mahmoud Abbas to take the initiative to urgently summon a meeting of the Supreme National Committee, arising out of the internal Palestinian dialogue carried out in Cairo, with the objective of activating the PLO on the basis of democratic elections that strengthen its authority and establish the unity of the Palestinian people.
