It is with great concern that the peoples of the world observe the intense deterioration of the political situation in the Middle East resulting from an intense campaign of aggressions by Israel.
The main target – as it has been in decades – is the occupied territories of Palestine. Provocations towards Syria ensued, including the violations of its territory. Now the Zionist fury is aimed at Lebanon. According to most recent available information, the attacks of Israel have killed tens of people since the attacks began last Wednesday. The Israeli aircrafts bombed not only military targets, but also residential zones, causing the destruction of infrastructure facilities, such as the International Airport of Beirut and the road that links that capital to Damascus, the capital of Syria.
Once again Israel violates the sovereignty of a neighboring National State and vilifies international law. The present intensification implies the danger of leading to a large-scale war of Israel against the Arab countries, what would result in serious consequences to peace and safety in the Middle East and to the world as a whole.
As the Israeli aggressions to Arab countries recrudesces, the role of the United States as godfather of Israel draws attention by vetoing a symbolic resolution of the UN Security Council condemning Israel, becoming o a political and moral co-author of the murders practiced by the Zionist terrorists.
Despite the position taken by the United States, the reaction against the intensification of aggressions has been strong throughout the world. The Communist Party of Brazil, which advocates national sovereignty, the right of peoples to self-determination and peace in the Middle East, vehemently condemns the increasing violence promoted by Israel. It calls the Brazilian peoples and the active progressive forces in our country to mobilize in solidarity towards the Arab countries being attacked.
In this opportunity, PCdoB expresses its most heartfelt condolences for the death of a Brazilian family caused by Israeli strikes, including two children of four and two years old who were spending their vacation in the city of Srifa, Lebanon, the land of their ancestors.
