The Democratic Front: Internal Reforms Contribute to Winning Independence
The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) has called for the reorganization of the internal Palestinian situation and for carrying out true democratic reforms. The organization asserts that such reforms will strengthen the resistance of the people and their national unity in the face of the occupier’s colonialist measures, lesson the people’s suffering, and accelerate the realization of ideas of the Palestinian Declaration of Independence.
The DFLP, on the sixteenth anniversary of the Declaration of the Independence, affirmed that the program represents a crucial and important moment in the struggle of the Palestinian people. It expresses the decision to be freed from occupation, to build a sovereign state on Palestinian lands with Jerusalem as its capital, and to guarantee the right of refugees to return by virtue of resolutions of international law. The declaration also outlines the features of a democratic régime that will be the permanent authority for the struggle of all the Palestinian political forces, confronting any attempt to ignore national rights and challenging all forms of corruption, absolutism and sectarianism.
The Front affirmed that the adoption of the principles of the Declaration of Independence, the application of the resolutions of the Palestinian conference in Cairo, and the approval of a program of united work on the part of all the Palestinian political forces will help to reduce the suffering of our people and bring us closer to the hour of true independence.
The organization asserted that the policies of absolutism and indifference, given the need for national concord, lead down a path of partial solutions which increase the suffering of the Palestinian people.
The DFLP called to continue with the Intifada and to protect the weapons of the resistance. It expressed its readiness to enter into negotiations for a permanent solution and to discuss essential topics that have been put on hold (such as Jerusalem, colonialism, the border and water) with the condition that the process be based on resolutions adopted in international law.
The Front highlighted the importance of taking advantage of the next legislative elections as a step toward a process of radical, democratic and global reform that leads quickly to the materialization of the ideas of the Declaration of the Independence.
On this occasion the Front recalls the heroes of our people who have fallen along the road to freedom, with martyred President Yasser Arafat in front, and salutes those imprisoned in the struggle for independence.
